This fall, in addition to working on The Exiled Courts (assuming I’ve completed The Misfit Caravan by then), I’ll have time to plan a Kickstarter around a writing project.
The writing project will help fund the writing time for the work, enable me to hire Micah Epstein for the cover, and also enable me to hire an editorial and marketing team. There are a few possibilities for this work, too, but I do need to focus on one item (especially if I want a Micah cover).
If I do plan a Kickstarter, what would interest you, if anything?
Here’s some more background on the choices:
1. The Early Adventures of Rune & Brand will be separated into novella-length seasons. The first season, tentatively called The Warehouse, is from the earliest days of Half House, when Rune & Brand were accepting their first solo assignments from Lord Tower. In this case, they go undercover at a residential warehouse of priceless magical artifacts, posing as hired help. The second season, tentatively titled The Dreamscape Mission, is their first assignment that crosses paths with the principality Ciaran.
2. Saber, a non-Tarot story. SABER is a standalone romantasy about a fae orphan named Alexsei who is forced into an arranged engagement with a shifter from a hidden mountain town—only to find himself unexpectedly seen, respected, and maybe even loved. But as local tensions rise and attacks begin to circle closer, Alex realizes his engagement was never just about him—it was a transaction. And someone is willing to kill to keep the truth buried. With a culture he’s only just beginning to understand, an emerging magical talent, and a saber-tooth cat-shifting fiancé who may be the only safe place he’s ever known, Alexsei must uncover the assassin’s identity before he loses the family he’s only just found.
3. The Omnibus Edition. This will collect all the free content on my website from the first three books, including two novellas (Sunken Mall and Battle Royalchemy) and multiple short stories/short story collections. I’ll also be expanding the Battle Royalchemy novella with more chapters. Total word count for collected pieces already exceeds 100,000 words.
What do you think? There would be many different levels of contributor support, with the minimal level of support ensuring pre-purchase of the actual eBook.
